css theme xf_openWeb
Another CSS varitation which i made in the last days and which is actually running on the demo site. All in all it’s the same source i’m using now a long time and which is running very fine.
What is a CSS theme?, i’m frequently asked. Saying “CSS theme” I mean, that it does not use tables for positioning things. But there are tables within the source! Yes there are! The theme itself does not use any tables. Content and layout is divided from each other in a cms. In the content, the outut of XOOPS, there are tables used to display “tabular data” (though still [sometimes] to position things).
The most problems people have with these themes is the “wrong” usage of tables or the width of tables, where the U.A. could not render the width propperly, mainly on flexible (full width) themes.
It’s a bit different usage from a layout which uses tables for positioning things and where eg. a “parent” table’s width is set. Clearing floats on parent elements used in the theme and unvalid W3C output are the next sources of errors. So why should I use “CSS themes”? They are fast, much more accessible and easy to maintain (and many other issues …)
For i’m not that big graphic talented, the themes should be seen as a basics which could easily pushed up with images and backgrounds.
xf_openWeb is a full width theme (until 1024px) using max-width hack in css to stop at 1024px.
I’m asked if it is possible to run these themes on any other systems? Of course, i’m using them for example in wordPress. xf_open web will be the first theme which will be availabe as static [x]HTML files, to make it easier to port this theme to other CMS or blogs. The elder themes i made in the past will perhaps follow, the new one will.
