MyOttawa.ca is an online portal for the Ottawa, Canada area. Based on an installation of Xoops 2.0.15, the site is a showcase for many”Web 2.0″ features, such as the ability to add, comment on or suscribe to unique local content. Site users can submit their own news stories through a Street Reporter program, and earn real money from their articles. Using the smartsection module as a base from which to display user-submitted stories, Street reporters can earn money by displaying their own AdSense Ads and accepting PayPay tips.
Authors also earn a dollar for each of their stories that is published on the site. MyOttawa.ca is at the forefront of citizen journalism, and in creating a business model where the work of each author actually helps the other site participants make money.
